Rfv-sense: To become true. Umm, really? I only know the other meaning. Note I moved the usex from sense 1 to sense 2 where it seemed to belong. Mglovesfun (talk) 22:58, 28 December 2010 (UTC)
- The challenged sense is closer to the one that applies in dream come true, but in any event the two senses could be combined. I don't think the "contrary to expectations" aspect of the definition part of all usage and the few dictionaries that have this idiom don't include that. DCDuring TALK 23:16, 28 December 2010 (UTC)
- Perhaps "become true", in this sense true means "real" in which case senses 1 and 2 are the same. Mglovesfun (talk) 13:11, 29 December 2010 (UTC)
- Striking. I've merged the senses per the above discussion, and added an example that I think is clearly "true" rather than "existent". (Actually, I think all the examples are "true" rather than "existent", but I see how it's weird to talk of a "true dream" or "true wish" meaning that the contents of the dream or wish are also the contents of reality; but I added an example with "prediction", which I think is more clear.) —RuakhTALK 21:30, 13 January 2011 (UTC)
