I am not sure that this definition is correct (but I o not know weel Englilsh, and this statment is based on the Italian equivalent). Not always convice is made by proof. Sometime you conviced somebody just by repeating the same statement without proof. What I would like to say is that I do not see a connection between convince and prrof or dmostration.
