Missing sense: to sift? edit
Chambers 1908 has a sense "to sift". Unsure whether this is supposed to be literal (like sifting flour) or whether it just means "sifting through" a topic, i.e. modern sense of discussing/talking over. Equinox ◑ 13:25, 1 July 2019 (UTC)
