Talk:down to the wire

During an election broadcast a speaker said: "It has been predicted that this race would come down to the wire", by which he meant that it would be a very close race until the very end. Is this use common? Because it's not really covered by our definition. 90.186.170.236 15:07, 12 April 2019 (UTC)
