The definition of a "firmer chisel" may not be correct. English usage is a carpenter's chisel with a rectangular cross section, as opposed to a bevel-edge chisel; nothing to do with the tang. Wikepedia's article on chisels has it right. 82.3.57.216 23:14, 7 March 2024 (UTC)
