Talk:for the win

Latest comment: 10 years ago by DCDuring

I noticed that 'for the win' is classified as an adverb, whereas 'for the loss' is classified as an adjective. I have little talent for resolving parts of speech, but this is very counterintuitive to me. Can anyone explain why these two phrases, which are used so similarly, are classified differently?

of course "for the loss" is also an adverb. Or to be more exact, both are adverbial constructions. 93.219.186.150 18:23, 12 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
Most English prepositional phrases are used both adverbially and adjectivally. We can the Prepositional phrase header to eliminate duplication of definitions. DCDuring TALK 01:37, 11 October 2013 (UTC)Reply
