Is the etymology correct? Fromkin et al, in "Introduction to Language", state that this was originally English slang (which has since entered into the conventional lexicon)
- Both are correct. Originally, meaning when it first came into use in English, it was slang; but it came to English from a dialect of German. —Stephen 16:52, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
