Seems we have two rival etymologies. Which is it? Or is it disputed/uncertain? Mglovesfun (talk) 12:39, 25 May 2012 (UTC)
- I've always assumed it was from French grotte ("cave"), until recently I came across Norwegian grå (grått in the neuter) meaning "grey". Apparently it's neither. Correctrix (talk) 07:18, 27 October 2015 (UTC)
