Etymology question edit

Are we sure it's simply a dialectal variant and not a vestige of Old French in North America? The etymology from the French Wiktionary would seem to indicate so. 198.161.143.149 17:28, 2 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

Erm, most words in French are vestiges of Old French. The former is the direct descendant of the latter. I think you simply misinterpreted their etymology. —Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 17:30, 2 May 2016 (UTC)Reply
And I don't see how being a dialectal variant precludes it from having originated in Old French. --WikiTiki89 17:32, 2 May 2016 (UTC)Reply
