Talk:in-law
In the Netherlands and Belgium gay marriage is legal. Does anybody know if this affects the terms with which you refer to your in-laws? For example, is the husband of someone's son also called a son-in-law? I'm pretty sure that this is so in Dutch, but what about English -- since there are no English speaking countries (yet) where gay marriage is legal. D.D. 19:26 Apr 27, 2003 (UTC)
Even simpler: is it correct to say that a married gay couple consists of 2 husbands, and a married lesbian couple of 2 wives? D.D.

Formerly -in-law was also used to designate those relationships which are now expressed by step-, e.g. son-in-law [formerly] = stepson, father-in-law [formerly] = stepfather --Backinstadiums (talk) 09:58, 7 August 2021 (UTC)
