Placement of table of katakana

This is a lovely table but it's an encyclopedic entry, or an index so it shouldn't be in this space under "katakana". This space is just for a dictionary definition of the word as used in English, and any other languages which use a word of identical spelling - probably including Japanese Romaji. I'm not sure if we have a standard of where Index pages go but have a look around. The same goes for the hiragana article too sorry. — Hippietrail 12:16, 3 May 2004 (UTC)

Hmm, I'm not sure. Some paper dictionaries do have charts of alphabets in them, for example AHD's. Encyclopedic would be histories of characters, how to use them, when the convention of using small kana in syllables like "kyo" arose, a list of the kanji they developed from... As far as I'm concerned, this is just an illustration, and is just as useful, if not more so (having links), than the image in duck. I say keep. —Muke Tever 15:31, 3 May 2004 (UTC)

Yes print dictionaries do have charts in them. They have them in an index. I'm not aware of any which have them as their actual entry for a word. If we are to keep it in the word entry does it go under the English heading, the Japanese Romaji entry, or into its own level 2 heading? If it gets its own heading should it be the first one, before English; the first one after English; at the very bottom? Whatever everybody agrees on is fine as long as we don't end up with twenty different indices inside word articles with each doing it a different way. — Hippietrail 02:26, 4 May 2004 (UTC)

Well, my print dictionary is the AHD3, and its charts like this on nearby pages to the words they represent: the alphabet chart faces the alternate angle - alveolar page, the chart of measurements is two and a half pages following immediately after the entry for measurement, and the chart of currencies is opposite the page with currency. However these, like the chart here, are rather huge and are not displayed "inline". You're probably right that this belongs in its own page, possibly something like Appendix:Katakana (a subpage of Appendix:Foreign scripts?), with a reference in this entry to that page. (Or maybe it is in fact too encyclopedic, and could be divided between Wiktionary:Japanese Furigana index and w:Katakana). —Muke Tever 02:47, 6 May 2004 (UTC)
