No, it just means "be in labour"

- Yes, that is definitely its only current meaning. My old copy of Duden has "eigtl.=gebären schreien", which suggests that the current meaning developed from and replaced the archaic one. The only change I would make would be from "archaic" to "obsolete"- but only if the archaic meaning is, indeed, unknown to modern speakers. Chuck Entz (talk) 14:18, 1 May 2014 (UTC)
- Even the 'modern' usage is dated now, I changed the labels. Most contemporary speakers will recognize the word only from compounds such as Kreißsaal. – Jberkel 11:48, 30 October 2019 (UTC)
