Wikipedia states that it's either from Portuguese or Dutch (instead of the Spanish here) and then from Malay etc. The wikipedia source also gives "from PIE base *men- "to think" (see mind)", but wikipedia did not include that. Who is right? 81.68.255.36 11:43, 25 August 2010 (UTC)
- It is from Hindi मंत्री (māntri, “minister”) via Portuguese or Dutch. मंत्री (māntri) is ultimately from PIE base *men- "to think". —Stephen 12:34, 25 August 2010 (UTC)
Ya, but I meant that wiktionary says 'portuguese and spanish' and wikipedia says 'portuguese or dutch'. 81.68.255.36 16:27, 25 August 2010 (UTC)
