I am not a native speaker of Asturian but I live in a relatively close area to the place where Asturian is spoken and I have some knowledge of it. I doubt the term "mazu" means "massif". To my knowledge it only means "mallet" (check for example ast:Ferramienta or ast:Garlopa). I've just checked a few Asturian texts (ast.wikipedia included) and I have failed to find the meaning "massif". The origin of it must be this place name.
