Talk:multitude

As a new user I wished to edit this article, but am unsure of the correct protocol for doing so. The issue I wish to raise is that in cultural studies there includes a definition of the "multitude" as a vast group identified in its diversity. The technical definitions (from Hobbes) define it in contrast to the "people" who are seen as a group of individuals that share the politically coherent position of subservience to the state. Hobbes' Elements of Law Natural and Political, chapter 21 identifies the multitude as the group that exists before subservience to a sovereign ruler. When members of the multitude align themselves with the state, they become the "people", and are no longer members of the multitude. 128.250.5.247 04:51, 21 February 2011 (UTC)
