While I have yet to find this in a dictionary, Google turns up almost 17,000 pages for oughts decade - mostly discussions about what to call the decade. Some notable ones include:

  • several New York Times entries [1] & [2] (etc), both of these in the "letters to the editor" section, both from 1998
  • another [3] from 1989
  • in the book "What It Felt Like: Living in the American Century" [4]
  • Jonah Goldberg (editor, National Review Online) says it in a CNN interview [5] on American Morning

I think "aughts" is an alternate spelling, as well. sewnmouthsecret 22:02, 21 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Just a thought, what did they call the years 1900 to 1909? I can't find any ref, but I know that the 30.06 rifle calibre is called "Thirty-ought-six". Not sure if that helps.--Dmol 18:44, 25 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

I've seen two or three references to them as "oughts" as well. -- SatyrTN 03:10, 30 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Now cited, though one of those cites (included because it's the oldest I could find on b.g.c.) actually writes 'oughts. If anyone wants me to add a third apostrophe-less cite, let me know and I will. —RuakhTALK 23:56, 19 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Return to "oughts" page.
