Since the original Phoenix legend is only singular, there is no evidence to base a decision upon. I have seen both Phoenixes and Phoenix used as plural, more commonly the latter. -Ellisthion 11:03, 13 January 2006 (UTC)

Actually, since phoenix exists in latin, and its second stem is phoenic- (as in, phoenix, phoenicis; pl. phoenices) I would suggest phoenices as the etymologically right way to go. But dictionaries online give ph[o]enixes, so I guess that is proper English. Also, according at least to Wictionary, it shouldn't be capitalised, since Phoenix is a botanical and zoological (NB. for a kin of butterfly) term.
