Surely the 'pod' part is more like "peas in a pod". Wikipedia has "Winer added a specific enclosure element to what was then his company's RSS specification". As peas are enclosed in a pod so are broadcasts enclosed in a pod.
Perhaps this is a better explanation to use than to say that it relates to the iPOD.
