I am reviewing Duos récréatifs pour 2 cors by Eric Hulin, published by Billaudot. The piece has Englsih translations of the French throughout, with numerous schoolboy howlers garcing its pages. The best - or rather worst - example is the translation of "récréatif" into "Recreative", hence "Recreative duets". Why is it so difficult to get a proper translator? There are so many Brits in France these days, there must be somweonme the publisher could ask to find out if we actually use the word in that way - i.e., idiomatic translations, not idiotic translations.
