Origin and pronunciation edit
According to dictionary.com, the word is in the North American sense of waterfall (described there as Canadian; is this perhaps Canadian only?) pronounced /suː/, but I'm guessing the 14th-century loan in the sense would rather have rhymed with vault (so, in later English /sɔːlt/). We should also probably split these into seperate etymology sections, since these are properly two separate borrowings with different time and place of origin, different context/language area, different pronunciation (presumably). Can someone confirm the pronunciations? – Krun 13:52, 29 November 2010 (UTC)
- I've added the pronunciation in the sense "waterfall". It's from the American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language, 3rd edn., but when I tried to add that I got a warning, "No references", so I'm noting it here. --Thnidu (talk) 07:24, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
