Yes and no. This is a passive use of the verb, so it will necessarily look intransitive. An active use would be "The snake sloughed its skin." --EncycloPetey 15:59, 13 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
The example sentence is "A week after he was burned, a layer of skin on his arm sloughed off." That isn't passive; that's flat-out intransitive. Passive would be "a layer of skin on his arm was sloughed off" or "...got sloughed off". —Angr 23:45, 13 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
