in 55 years, I have never heard the word "solder" being used as "joint" -- not in plumbing, electronic circuits, building wiring. Cem BSEE 13:00, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

etymology edit
The etymology is contradicted by what all major dictionaries and http://www.etymonline.com/index.php?term=solder say. What does “CA” mean? edit
In the UK pronunciation section, there is an audio clip of someone pronouncing it like the English do, but it is labeled as “CA”. Convention dictates that CA is for Canada, but that is most certainly not how Canadians pronounce it. Canadians pronounce it the same as Americans, and in fact, the American section just below it even includes Canada. If the CA is supposed to represent another country, then it should be clarified to avoid confusion with Canada. If it is indeed supposed to be Canada, then it should be replaced with a clip of an actual Canadian pronouncing it.
