stoke or stokes?

According to w:Viscosity, the singular and plural are both "stokes". "stoke" is mentioned once as being sometimes used in the US. PierreAbbat 04:03, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

Etymology 1 and 2

Both would better merge, as fuel is poked (stoke#Etymology 1) and fire is stirred up (stoke#Etymology 2). Such would be Dutch (deprecated template usage) stoken. Such is also the case with tisoir (fr) ("firestick for poking fuel") and tiser (fr) ("to feed, fuel"), respectively.
