My preliminary examination indicates that this is a Spanish root for the English word, tamale, through the common plural, tamales.Novangelis (talk) 23:26, 22 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

And also a valid English word. The term is in widespread use and easily cited off Google Books. —Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 23:32, 22 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
Anyone feel like calling this on grounds of widespread use? DAVilla 06:37, 26 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
I wouldn't call it widespread as I've only heard tamale. If it's easily citeable, then cite it. --WikiTiki89 12:05, 26 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

RFV-passed. Thanks for citing it! - -sche (discuss) 00:30, 14 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

I think the plural 'tamals' is incorrect, but 'tamales' is the correct form, as in Mexican Spanish. For references see here, all of which cite 'tamales' as the only plural form, also in all listed examples: https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/tamale https://en.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/tamale http://www.thefreedictionary.com/Tamal
