If we were to define the words literally, one must ask the question: how can you "touch" (or feel) a "tone" (or musical note)? Therefore, this must be an idiomatic expression.

Not at all. This article is a 3-word phrase, the problem you not occurs only within the 2-word phrase touch-tone which is indeed idiomatic, should have a definition, and does have in print dictionaries, sometimes capitalised. — Hippietrail 23:14, 26 August 2005 (UTC)
