Talk:twice-yearly

I know that Wikipedians frown on twice- etc compounds because there is an infinite extension, but I can find no precise synonym for twice-yearly. Biannual appears to be more widely misused than I could have believed. Semi-annual and semi-yearly are slightly ambiguous and much less clear to a British ear. Are they widely used across the pond?
