Is unfertile the same as infertile? Or does infertile mean completely lacking fertility and unfertile just mean not very fertile? (i.e. is infertile absolute and unfertile relative?). If land is only marginal for agriculture should it be called unfertile? RJFJR 15:55, 29 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

There is no difference in principle. But of course there are lots of subtle connotational differences. To me, infertile is saying something about a positive condition which a thing has; whereas with unfertile there is more of a sense of what condition a thing doesn't have.
