I can't find data on this, but are there ideas for how the second syllable originated? Surely there must be patterns in this ending being added to other words? tus#Latin is "incense" so could virtus be a way of saying man's incense? The smell of manliness, the essence? DB 20:40, 21 April 2011 (UTC)
