The English word vista is a synonym for sight or view. It is from the same Italian word, itself from the Latin past participle of the verb vedere. The word also exists in Iberian Romance languages like Spanish and Portuguese with the same meaning.

I think the Latin word you are thinking of is videre (vedere is Italian). I'm not sure about that etymology, because in Latin the perfect participle is visus, visa, visum. However, the Italian participle is visto, vista, so that could make sense. Timotheus1 (talk) 07:45, 8 January 2013 (UTC)
