Is Dictionary.com correct in what they show as a plural for wanton which seems to have no relationship to the root word?

Word of the Day for Tuesday, January 27, 2009 wanton \WON-tn\, adjective; The plural is faunas or faunae

Interesting; I suspect a complete error. Sometimes words have inflections from different roots (go, went being the most familiar in English), but I see no support for this here. Robert Ullmann 15:34, 27 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Comparatives wantoner & wantonest seem odd to me, do we have any published literature or dictionary cites? Thanks, Lollipop (talk) 00:43, 26 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
