Etymology edit
Disputed, suggestions include:
- Derivative of Proto-Celtic *dubros (“water”)[1]
- Borrowed through Ancient Ligurian or another Celtic language from Proto-Celtic *tarwos (“bull”); folk etymology would later connect the name directly to the Latin cognate taurus.[2]
This etymology is incomplete. You can help Wiktionary by elaborating on the origins of this term.
Proper noun edit
Taurīnī m pl (genitive Taurīnōrum); second declension
- A Celto-Ligurian tribe of ancient Piedmont, whose chief town was Taurasia, later Augusta Taurinorum, now Turin.
