"dot" parameter doesn't work properly. edit

wikitext result
{{abbreviation of|foo|dot=:}} bar Abbreviation of foo: bar
{{abbreviation of|foo|dot=;}} bar Abbreviation of foo; bar
{{abbreviation of|foo|dot=<nowiki/>:}} bar Abbreviation of foo: bar
{{abbreviation of|foo|dot=<nowiki/>;}} bar Abbreviation of foo; bar
baz<!--
-->: bar
baz: bar
baz<!--
-->{{#ifeq:||:}} bar
baz
bar
baz<!--
-->{{#ifeq:||<nowiki/>:}} bar
baz: bar

Conclusion: we should change line #64 of this template from this:

-->{{#ifeq:{{{dot}}}|NONE|{{#if:{{{nodot|}}}||.}}|{{{dot}}}}}<!--

to this:

-->{{#ifeq:{{{dot}}}|NONE|{{#if:{{{nodot|}}}||.}}|<nowiki/>{{{dot}}}}}<!--

any objections to my making that change?

Remove dot and ucfirst edit

Can someone tell me how to remove the final dot and ucfirst, such as I describe at WT:GP#Form of templates. Mglovesfun (talk) 14:52, 3 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Meaning of third parameter edit

The third parameter is a gloss of participle or of what participle it is?--Dixtosa. 18:34, 18 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Firstly — Please fix your signature to link more prominently to your user-page or talk-page.
Secondly — Neither; it's a gloss of the lexeme. For example, if the inflected form is a participle, then the lexeme is presumably a verb, so the gloss would most likely take the form “to ___”.

3 edit

Why does 3, the gloss appear in italicized brackets? Renard Migrant (talk) 17:16, 11 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

@Renard Migrant: I fixed it today. --Daniel Carrero (talk) 01:40, 2 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

There doesn't seem to be a crucial difference between these two templates, and they are both used for the same things. So I think merging them would be better, while adding the missing functionality of one to the other. See WT:GP#Singulative help for prior discussion. —CodeCat 11:41, 4 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Any merge must be effected carefully so that transcluded instances are not affected. (Or at least so that transcluded instances of {{deftempboiler}} aren't affected. Preferably also {{form of}}, but it's been edited in a way that affects transcluded instances without those pages ever thereafter being checked for still-accuracy, so further bad edits wouldn't be the end of the world.) If that's done, I support.—msh210lic (talk) 16:55, 4 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
