Template:nl-adv edit

Dutch adverb template seems to be more applicable to adjectives than adverbs. Can anyone vouch for this as written? See for example slordig. —Stephen 18:57, 18 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Nevermind. I see this is under discussion in the BP. —Stephen 19:52, 18 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
Dutch adverbs "inflect" in the same way as Dutch adjectives, and can be difficult to distinguish in some cases. I'm reasonably confident of the basic endings, since I checked against three published Dutch grammars by different publishers. --EncycloPetey 02:14, 20 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

There are two problem with the superlative of the adverb. In general Dutch adverbs derive from adjectives simply by taking the uninflected form. If the superlative adverb stands alone in a sentence it takes the dummy article "het".
Jan speelt het mooist. - John plays most beautifully

Strictly speaking mooist should not get an -e in this case, but it often does.

If the adverbs is used to qualify an adjective, it does not take "het":

Dit is de mooist gespeelde sonate. - This is the most beautifully played sonata. (minus the awkwardness of this English sentence).

So hardwiring the "het" into the template is not appropriate. Jcwf 15:15, 30 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
