Hello, and a belated welcome. That's quite a list you've got there! I had no idea there were words for some of those ideas (or needed to be, for that matter). I'm flattered, if a bit surprised, to find myself on your list of others to check out (though I think most of us call ourselves "Wiktionarians"). If the list is for your own benefit, please don't forget to check out some of the rest of us, too. We have some remarkable folks around here. (I'm lagging behind many of them with my mere two and a half languages.) You can also get to know some of us and get some help and company in the Wiktionary:IRC_channel. Etymologies

I have only studied a bit of Greek. When I say "two and a half" languages, Greek is the "half", and, truth be told, it's less than that. I have contributed the odd Greek etymology, but they take me a long time. That said, if I find obvious ones, I'll certainly add them. User:Muke is a master at tracking down etymologies in Latin and Greek. If you just can't bear empty slots in your entries, you might ask him. (He's on IRC regularly.) Otherwise, trust that Wiktionary is a collaborative (if massive) project, and that somebody with more or different interest and expertise will eventually fill in the blanks. --Dvortygirl 01:16, 15 May 2005 (UTC)

Hello Bennmorland,

I'm sorry if I came across too harshly. I've been quite busy lately and meant to send you a message about this sooner. Regarding {{etymstub}} and {{pronstub}} my objection (and others I've talked to about this) is not the existence of the stub, but rather their use within otherwise empty sections. I personally think that those two templates should "silently" add the categories in question, but not display anything to someone reading the article. Last time I checked, WT:ELE recommended not putting section headers in, if there is no information within that section. I hope this helps.

Sorry, but the pronunciation was not mine. Muke was the one that supplied that. I rarely do anything with pronunciation. I just re-arranged things a bit. I do confess to removing the "dated" tag. I find it to be generally too subjective. I especially wonder about it when it's put on a term that I would be ready to use myself. :-) Eclecticology 23:05, 2005 Jun 23 (UTC)

Kaput - Etymology

Many moons ago, you entered the etymology for kaput. The etymology lists Yiddish as the derivation.

Do you remember your source that showed Yiddish as the derivation of kaput?
