Interwikis edit

Hello, please don't add interwikis as there is a bot to do it. You'll find a bot can update a few thousand pages a lot faster than a person can. Thanks. Mglovesfun (talk) 17:01, 12 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Welcome edit

Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contributions so far.

If you are unfamiliar with wiki-editing, take a look at Help:How to edit a page. It is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.

These links may help you familiarize yourself with Wiktionary:

  • Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy on Wiktionary's page formatting; all entries must conform to it. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing same-language entry, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.
  • Check out Language considerations to find out more about how to edit for a particular language.
  • Our Criteria for Inclusion (CFI) defines exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary; the most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.
  • If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide for Wikipedia users useful.
  • If you have any questions, bring them to Wiktionary:Information desk or ask me on my talk page.
  • Whenever commenting on any discussion page, please sign your posts with four tildes (~~~~) which automatically produces your username and timestamp.
  • You are encouraged to add a BabelBox to your userpage to indicate your self-assessed knowledge of languages.

Enjoy your stay at Wiktionary!

Thanks for the Kurdish entries. It would be nice to link to the Arabic alphabet forms too, if we have them. See (deprecated template usage) anđelić for an example of how we do something similar with Serbo-Croatian. Ƿidsiþ 11:34, 20 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Please check before removing plural forms. In many cases we already have the plurals as entries, and they're valid. Mglovesfun (talk) 18:19, 6 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Try Google. Look for Kindheiten. You'll find many uses, e.g. a book Traumatische Kindheiten, etc. de.wikt forgets some cases. Lmaltier 18:31, 6 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Background color edit

Can you change the background color of this talk page to a light color, such as white or very light brown? Black letters on brown background are fairly hard to read; even harder to read on brown background are the magenta or violet colors of followed hyperlinks. --Dan Polansky 09:06, 7 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Babel edit

Thank you for making the background color lighter.

Could you add {{Babel}} to your user page? Something like {{Babel|ku|en-3}} if you are Kurdish who speaks English well, or whatever fits. --Dan Polansky 14:15, 7 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hey there, I'm really glad to see some attention being paid to Kurdish. I'd really like to have declension and conjugation templates (like devrim#Declension and کردن#Conjugation). If you'd like, I can help with these, and if you have any questions about anything, feel free to ask me. — [Ric Laurent]16:47, 18 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi Laurent,
Thanks a lot.Maybe, you can help me by fixing this template.I will show you what should be there. Thanks again!:)George Animal 16:14, 19 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
Sure, what needs to be fixed? — [Ric Laurent]16:47, 19 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

I wanted to add the future perfect, present perfect, subjunctive forms, but there were some problems and that's why I couldn't complete it beacuse there are 5 verb forms (verb classes) in Kurdish (Kurmanji) and I couldn't integrate them.I hope, you can understand my problem.George Animal 16:53, 19 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Of course, I run into problems all the time. I think the place to start is to make Template:ku-conj/head which will define the standard shape of the template and we can have templates for the different verb classes. — [Ric Laurent]17:17, 19 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Important question edit

Are 1st/2nd/3rd person plural forms always the same? If not, I need to change the whole template :) — [Ric Laurent]18:29, 20 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Yes, and in the simple past/present perfect all persons are the same.George Animal 18:33, 20 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
Alright. In present tense, is there only one form for all the plurals, or are there different ones for "we", "you","they"? — [Ric Laurent]18:35, 20 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
No only the plural forms are the same. But how I said, the simple past and present forms are the same, for all persons.George Animal 18:37, 20 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
Also by other verb classes this is the same thing.George Animal 18:38, 20 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
Can you add a new parameter for past. The sumple past form is used to make other tenses, like present perfect, past perfect, future and future perfect. For example kirîn =to buy: simplae past: kirî, present perfect me kiriye, simple future ezê bikirim and future perfect ezê kiribim.George Animal 18:41, 20 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
I'm working on a new head template now. — [Ric Laurent]18:51, 20 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Serhildan and revolution edit

Hi, George! You wrote that the meaning of serhildan was revolution. Doesn't serhildan originally mean «to raise one's head»? A revolution implies a deep change of power or at least of the way a Society lives, works or thinks (like the Industrial Revolution). A revolt, however, does not always lead to such a change, and the situation may return to what it was before that revolt. So in my way, serhildan can be better translated by uprising or insurrection. Kurdische Übersetzungen edit

Hi George,

Was meinst Du? Matthias Buchmeier (talk) 10:49, 18 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hallo Matthias

You've defined these both as "soft" — which, by the way, is not a very useful definition (since "soft" has many different meanings, and the entries give no indication of which sense you have in mind) — but then you listed them as antonyms. Are you sure that's what you meant to do?

Templates: Template:subst:User:GeorgeAnimal/ku-conj-tin-alleFormen u.s.w verschoben edit

Turkish-speaker advice needed on whether to delete some categories and templates edit

I recently nominated for deletion a block of categories and templates. These were for grammatical categories that would be wrong for most languages. I don't speak Turkish, however.

Your Babel box says you're a native speaker of Turkish, and you've been active on Wiktionary recently. I would appreciate it if you could look at the sections for the categories and for the templates and comment on whether they're useful, whether they should be deleted, and why (or why not). Danke! --Pereru (talk) 10:54, 23 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi Pereru

Danke! --Pereru (talk) 11:34, 13 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

ewrkirin and tarîkirin edit

Hello George Animal. Would you mind creating entries for the Kurdish words Lua error in Module:parameters at line 95: Parameter 1 should be a valid language or etymology language code; the value "ku" is not valid. See WT:LOL and WT:LOL/E. and Lua error in Module:parameters at line 95: Parameter 1 should be a valid language or etymology language code; the value "ku" is not valid. See WT:LOL and WT:LOL/E., please? The former is listed on your user subpage, User:George Animal/5; both have entries on Wîkîferheng (see ku:ewrkirin and ku:tarîkirin). They are apparently translations of the English word obnubilation in one or more of its senses. Thanks in advance. — I.S.M.E.T.A. 14:08, 20 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hi dear friend,
Thanks a lot. I have created the both entries. :) Best regards--GeorgeAnimal. 15:23, 20 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
Thanks very much. Could you tell me in what sense(s) Lua error in Module:parameters at line 95: Parameter 1 should be a valid language or etymology language code; the value "ku" is not valid. See WT:LOL and WT:LOL/E. equates to the English obnubilation, please? Judging by what I assume to be its etymology (Lua error in Module:languages/errorGetBy at line 16: The language or etymology language code "ku" in the first parameter is not valid (see Wiktionary:List of languages).), it equates to the literal sense “veiling with or concealment in clouds”, but does it also mean one or more of obnubilation's other three senses? And as for Lua error in Module:parameters at line 95: Parameter 1 should be a valid language or etymology language code; the value "ku" is not valid. See WT:LOL and WT:LOL/E., is it a valid translation of obnubilation in the sense “action of darkening or fact of being darkened”? What about in obnubilation's other senses? Lastly, how do Lua error in Module:parameters at line 95: Parameter 1 should be a valid language or etymology language code; the value "ku" is not valid. See WT:LOL and WT:LOL/E. and Lua error in Module:parameters at line 95: Parameter 1 should be a valid language or etymology language code; the value "ku" is not valid. See WT:LOL and WT:LOL/E. decline? Do they decline at all? They appear, to my ignorant eye, to be gerunds from the phrases Lua error in Module:parameters at line 95: Parameter 1 should be a valid language or etymology language code; the value "ku" is not valid. See WT:LOL and WT:LOL/E. and Lua error in Module:parameters at line 95: Parameter 1 should be a valid language or etymology language code; the value "ku" is not valid. See WT:LOL and WT:LOL/E., respectively; does that mean they're undeclinable? Thanks for your help and sorry about posting so many questions! — I.S.M.E.T.A. 13:58, 29 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
Hi,
in the sense "A veiling with or concealment in clouds." "ewrkirin" equates to the English obnubilation. Yes, the phrases Lua error in Module:parameters at line 95: Parameter 1 should be a valid language or etymology language code; the value "ku" is not valid. See WT:LOL and WT:LOL/E. and Lua error in Module:parameters at line 95: Parameter 1 should be a valid language or etymology language code; the value "ku" is not valid. See WT:LOL and WT:LOL/E. are gerunds.
"tarîkirin" and "ewrkirin" are substantived forms of "tarî kirin" and "ewr kirin" and they are declinable.-- best regards--GeorgeAnimal. 19:38, 29 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
OK, thank you. I have [[Special:Diff/41832121|verified Lua error in Module:parameters at line 95: Parameter 1 should be a valid language or etymology language code; the value "ku" is not valid. See WT:LOL and WT:LOL/E. accordingly]]. What should I do with {{t-check|ku|tarîkirin}}? — I.S.M.E.T.A. 14:42, 6 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
Hi,
I have added other meanings.--GeorgeAnimal. 22:48, 7 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. Shall I just remove the {{t-check|ku|tarîkirin}} from obnubilation#Translations, then? — I.S.M.E.T.A. 18:55, 8 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
Hi, I have removed it.--GeorgeAnimal. 23:33, 8 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
Thank you. — I.S.M.E.T.A. 12:28, 9 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

And this too Lua error in Module:parameters at line 95: Parameter 1 should be a valid language or etymology language code; the value "ku" is not valid. See WT:LOL and WT:LOL/E. please. --Giorgi Eufshi (talk) 14:33, 25 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
