Uses of this and similar lists edit

As we don't know which entries are most used, this and similar lists can be taken as lists of entries to be added or upgraded.

  • Add vernacular names (try substing {{User:DCDuring/Newvern|{{{1}}}}} where {{{1}}} is the taxon.)
  • Add taxonomic names, preferrably using {{taxoninfl|g=unk|i=1}} in the inflection line and {{taxon||family||'vernacular name'}} in the definition line.
For taxoninfl, if you know the gender you can type in g=m, g=f, g=n, g=m, f.
For taxon, see {{taxon}} for other parameters. I will probably find missing or wrong parameters, but the first parameter is usually 'species', 'genus', or 'subspecies'. You could make parameter 3=unk to increase the chances that a good family name with be added, but the family name can usually be found at wikispecies.
  • Upgrade vernacular name entries, with external links (principally using {{pedia}}, {{specieslite}} and {{comcatlite}}), and images (eg, geographic distribution maps or pictures that illustrate why the vernacular name is used (See northern pintail for an example.)), translation tables, hyponym sections.
  • Upgrade taxon entries with Etymologies (genus and higher), Hypernyms (See Category:Taxonomic hypernym templates) and Hyponyms sections, and external links (See Category:Taxonomic name templates for templates beginning "R:").

As of this date strike-through only indicates that both vernacular and taxonomic names have been added, not that they have been upgraded. DCDuring TALK 22:04, 21 November 2014 (UTC)Reply
