Rhymes:English:-ɒɡə(r) edit

You have links to this page, but the name is incorrect. It should be Rhymes:English:-ɒgə(r). Although it looks the same, the g is actually a different character code. --EncycloPetey 20:52, 6 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for pointing that out. (Although I have to say, the g/ɡ distinction is really, really stupid. There's only one g sound in IPA, so it shouldn't matter which g you use, in fact there should never have been a need for a special ɡ in the first place. And there are computers -- including the one I'm using now -- where the ɡ renders with a distinctly "closed tail" or "figure 8" shape, while it's supposed to be "script" or "open-tail" to distinguish it from g -- which on this computer is open-tail. What a mess.) —scs 01:26, 7 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

What the heck? :-( edit

Re: "I haven't followed the debate between you and Ruakh, so if you're sure he's completely wrong, I'll take your word for it, and retract 1/3 of my complaint": What the heck? :-(   Why does Connel's opinion automatically outweigh mine? —RuakhTALK 04:14, 13 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, I didn't mean it the way it sounded. It was mostly tongue in cheek anyway, but my underlying meaning was more like "If Ruakh is completely wrong, then I'll stop scolding you for saying that about him. (But of course he's not completely wrong, so it's a moot point.)" —scs 04:41, 13 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
Ah, O.K., understood. :-)   —RuakhTALK 05:10, 13 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Spanish rio edit

You wrote under the headline "Spanish" that rio is an "Anglicized spelling of río, river". Is this Anglicized spelling really used when writing in Spanish, or is it supposed to be a form used in English? Malhonen 08:53, 1 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Sorry; I don't remember why I did that! I presume I had a good reason, but today, I would tend to agree with your suspicion... —scs 04:14, 2 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

chorus line edit

If my count is correct, that is entry 700,000 ;-) Robert Ullmann 14:33, 24 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yippee! (So we're 70% of the way to railway line? :-) ) —scs 14:36, 24 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

rhymes-bot IPA edit

I think ɛ is actually rendered as"e"[. I'm referring to the' unkempt' entry]

IPA is confusing with all of the variants around. I just hope. I'm giving inthe standard one, confusedsmiley

Yup, I'm here :-) edit

We don't know each other, but I recognised your name from the old Usenet C FAQ. (Shockingly long time since I wrote anything in C, however.) So it was just a sort of celebrity spotting :) Equinox 02:58, 5 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Rhymes edit

Is there any chance you could run ScsRhymeBot again? There are quite a few entries that need rhyme links added. Thanks. --Yair rand 21:28, 16 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hmm. Haven't run that bot in quite a while, and I'm not sure I remember how to set it up (there were some manual steps involved), but I'll give it a try. —scs 04:45, 18 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

'Deprecated' edit

What's the meaning of this annotation? I see you have placed it on some words (ex electrocution, which I have removed it from) and the naive meaning of the word is not something that could be true in English, since there is no standards body which could deprecate it. --157.131.155.7 17:05, 23 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

If I'm honest that notation "deprecated" at electrocution meant "I don't like this and you shouldn't use it", but you're right, I'm not a standards body :-) . The "Usage note" I added at the same time adequately expresses the concern. —scs (talk) 15:24, 26 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
