From a transliteration of Modern Greek Βασίλειος (Vasíleios), a male given name used in (modern) Greece, which in turn derives from Ancient Greek Βασίλειος (Basíleios), from βασίλειος (basíleios, “of the king, kingly, royal”), from βασιλεύς (basileús, “king”).
