Wiktionary:About Zealandic

Zealandic (Zeêuws) is a language spoken in the southwestern Netherlands. It is closely related to West Flemish.

Spelling edit

Zealandic has no standard spelling, but there are various spelling suggestions which can be followed.

  • The so-called sharp-long e and o are written as and : boôm, breêd.
  • Words that occur with ae are to be lemmatised there. The rarer form with ao should be given its own entry, defined as an alternative form. E.g. blaeze, blaoze.
  • The apostrophe, used to indicate the loss of h or g, should not be used in the lemma page, but can be given as an alternative spelling, e.g. and, 'and.
  • Words in which the apostrophe indicates a schwa (unstressed vowel) should keep it, e.g. 'n, d'n, 't.
  • Verbs are lemmatised without the final -n.
