Wiktionary talk:Be bold in updating pages

I've been bold and replaced the version of this page that was up for deletion. I've copied the Wikipedia version over here and made some changes to make it more relevant to Wiktionary, but it still needs a lot of work. - dcljr 02:06, 20 March 2006 (UTC)

I’ve incorporated the warning from {{pediawelcome}}, and pointers to WT:ELE and WT:CFI, as these seem to reflect practice and consensus rather better than the WP boiler.

Pushback on boldness

Being bold, I duplicated a page that had a Swahili term that was picked up in English as a model for a new page, and, not knowing Swahili myself, made an error in the Swahili section that required cleanup. I was chastised for this. (They did correct the page, thankfully.) If there is a qualification against being bold that one should not create entries for languages one doesn't personally know, or similar cases where being bold is not the best policy specific to Wiktionary, that would best be mentioned on this "Be bold" guideline page. Not that it would have prevented this incident, as I didn't know that I didn't know, but to present general guidance going forward. Thisisnotatest (talk) 03:26, 5 July 2021 (UTC)
