From Ancient Greek ἄκανθα (ákantha, thorn) + αἴσθησις (aísthēsis, sensation).[1]

  1. A type of paresthesia characterized by a tingling, numbing sensation as of being pierced by needles, usually caused by the (temporary) clamping of nerves.
