Ancient Greek ἀμφί (amphí, both) + τροπή (tropḗ, turn) + -al.

Adjective edit

amphitropal (comparative more amphitropal, superlative most amphitropal)

  1. (botany) Having the ovule inverted, but with the attachment near the middle of one side; half anatropous.
