  1. to swap, to exchange something for (= pret) something else (to give something and to take something else in its place)
    apmainīt bibliotēkā grāmatasto exchange books in the library
    par naudu ceļā neko bēgļiem nedodot, bet rīsu, mannu, sāli un manufaktūtu varot apmainīt pret sviesti, pienu, gaļu, maizivia money the fugitives, it seems, could get nothing on their way, but rice, semolina, salt and textile products one could exchange for butter, milk, meat, and bread
  2. to change something, to replace something with (= pret) something else
