Etymology

From Proto-Albanian *aiskā, from Proto-Indo-European *aisk- 'bright, shining'. Cognate to Lithuanian áiškus (clear, bright), Old Norse eiskra (rage before hot excitement)[1]. Singular of eshkë. Alternatively from Proto-Indo-European *h₂éHōs 'ashes'. Compare Hittite  (ḫašša, potash, ashes), Ancient Greek ἄζα (aza, dry dirt), Old English æsce 'ashes'[2].
