Albanian edit

Etymology edit

From Proto-Albanian *britśiā, closely related to Latin brisa (husks of grapes). The further origin is uncertain; perhaps also cognate to Ancient Greek βρύτεα (brútea). According to Pokorny (1:144), Latin brisa (husks of wine) is an Illyrian loanword.[1] Conversely, Orel considers it a borrowing from Thracian *brūtea.[2]
