From Ottoman Turkish بویله (böyle), from earlier bunlayu, Old Turkic 𐰉𐰆 (b¹u /⁠bu⁠/, this) + 𐰞𐰖𐰆 (l¹y¹u /⁠-lAyU⁠/) (similative suffix). Compare öyle (like that), şöyle (like that). Cognate with Azerbaijani belə, (archaic) böylə.
