Unknown. Hypothetical derivations include[1]:
- Hebrew בָּרוּךְ הַבָּא (barúkh habá), a greeting used by Jews;
- Latin Berecynthia, a goddess whose feasts were accompanied by orgies;
- influence of confundir (“to confuse”).
