baseperson (plural basepersons)

  1. (baseball, softball) A fielder (of any gender) positioned near a base.
    • 1992, California Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, CAHPERD Journal Times, volume 55, page 3, rules of Crazy Baseball:
      The baseperson may not interfere with the runner and must stay inside the cones.
    • 1993, Michael A. Clark, Youth Baseball: A Complete Handbook:
      The ready position for the second baseperson is generally located slightly more than halfway to second from first and 10 to 15 feet behind the base path (see Figure 4-34 ).
