Etymology

Blend of B +‎ L +‎ Lac +‎ quasar. Coined by astronomer Edward Spiegel in 1978 from BL Lac object and quasar, punning blazing from its optical presentation compared to usual quasars. Analyzable as blaze +‎ -ar.
