From Old French bouchier (“goat slaughterer”), from bouc (“goat”), from Late Latin buccus (“male goat”) (first recorded in the Salic Laws), from Frankish *bukk (“male goat”), from Proto-Germanic *bukkaz, *bukkô (“male goat”), from Proto-Indo-European *bhuǵ- (“he-goat, ram”).
